"Donosti Cup Munduan" Grants
Promoting sport as an engine for social change
In 1994, in the third edition of the tournament, we received a call that made us rethink many things. A Peruvian academy, Academia Cantolao, had gone to Barcelona to participate in a tournament, but when they arrived in Barcelona they were informed that the tournament had been suspended due to lack of teams. About 40 players were thus left without accommodation, and without any activity for a whole week. Someone had told them about our tournament, and they asked us to participate, although they had no money to pay for anything. There was very little time left but we put them some bunk beds in a school, and we changed the calendar so that both teams could participate in the Donosti Cup that year. The emotion of the boys when they arrived and the hugs of the boys when they said goodbye was something that touched us deeply and since then we have helped more than 50 teams without resources from countries such as Sierra Leone, India, Western Sahara, Zambia, Mozambique, Nepal, Palestine, Ukraine, El Salvador, or Bolivia, among many others, to participate in the Donosti Cup, promoting inclusion and personal development through sport. This commitment has been recognized with distinctions such as the UNICEF National Award and the Iberdrola SuperA Award.
With the purpose of consolidating this commitment and expanding our actions, we present the “Donosti Cup Munduan” Grants. These grants are aimed at teams that use soccer as a tool for social transformation and will cover all participation expenses for one female and one male team in the Donosti Cup 2025.
Who can apply?
Soccer teams that belong to non-profit entities, such as soccer clubs or non-governmental organizations, and that use soccer as a tool to improve life in their communities.
