Jan Salas makes his First Division debut with Mallorca

Jan Salas, who participated in the 2019 Donosti Cup as part of the Vicente del Bosque Academy, has reached an important milestone in his football career by making his First Division debut with RCD Mallorca. The 19-year-old midfielder played his first match in the top category last Saturday at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, facing Atlético de Madrid on matchday 22 of LaLiga.

After being previously called up twice without playing, Salas finally got his chance when Jagoba Arrasate brought him on in the 81st minute to replace Dani Rodríguez. In his brief time on the pitch, the midfielder showed confidence, taking a shot on goal and being involved in one of the most talked-about moments of the match after receiving a tough tackle from Gallagher, which could have resulted in the British player’s expulsion.

After the match, Mallorca’s coach praised his performance: "I’m very happy, and to be honest, you couldn’t tell it was his debut. He did what was asked of him and even had a shot on goal. It’s good news for the club and for him, of course."

For his part, the young footballer expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity: "This is the result of many years of hard work, and today it has come true. I’m very happy and very grateful to the coach, the technical staff, and my teammates. It’s a shame about the result, but I’m very happy." He also revealed that he kept his debut jersey to give to his mother as a token of appreciation for her unconditional support.
