St James' Swifts FFA, the first club to sign up for the Donosti Authentics' Cup
The Irish club is the first team confirmed for the fourth edition of the inclusive tournament of the Donosti Cup
St James' Swifts Football For All (FFA) is the first team to sign up for the fourth edition of the Donosti Authentics' Cup, which will take place between 1st and 3rd July 2024. They became the first team from the Republic of Ireland to join the Authentics' Cup family.
The story of St James' Swifts FFA is one of inclusion and passion for football. Five years ago, the club started its inclusive team, with just five players. Today, they operate as a football club for players with physical, sensory, and/or intellectual disabilities and have 35 athletes ranging in age from 13 to 37.
“Being part of a community is so important for everyone in society, especially those with intellectual disabilities and so it is fantastic to see so many from across Belfast, Newtownabbey, and even Coleraine traveling to our training every week, developing their skills and making strong friendships,” says Darren, the team's coach.
In 2024, St James' Swifts FFA aims to compete in the Donosti Authentics' Cup, which represents a step forward in their sporting experience. The organizers thank them for their commitment to inclusion and welcome them to the tournament.
