Donosti Authentics Cup, a tournament that fights for the inclusion and participation of people with intellectual disabilities
During July 4th and 5th, the matches corresponding to the Donosti Authentics Cup will be played in Zubipe (Tuesday) and Miniestadio (Wednesday). On the other hand, on Wednesday we will celebrate the "Authentics Day" in the Fan Zone of the Reale Arena.
We all know the Donosti Cup, an international youth football tournament held annually in Donostia, the capital of Gipuzkoa. Year after year, this tournament has been growing and increasing its impact, to the point that it has become one of the most important youth football tournaments in the old continent. But despite the great echo it has, there is a category that is less known, largely because it was founded three editions ago. It is the Donosti Authentics Cup, a tournament where players with intellectual disabilities participate, and the main objective is to enjoy among all participants promoting adapted sports.
Through the Donosti Authentics Cup, and with the great help of the Orona Foundation, sponsor of the "Authentics Day", we provide a unique opportunity for young athletes with intellectual disabilities to demonstrate their talent and passion for football. A way to promote social equality and disprove certain prejudices that some people have about people with intellectual disabilities. In this way, the Donosti Cup also fights for the inclusion and participation of people with intellectual disabilities.
In this third edition of the Donosti Authentics Cup, the respective matches of this tournament will be played on Tuesday, July 4 in Zubipe (Hernani) and on Wednesday, July 5 in the afternoon at the Miniestadio. As for the participating teams, there will be a novelty, since teams from outside the Basque Autonomous Community will be taking part. The locals in this 2023 edition will be Real Sociedad and Eibar, while from Iparralde we will be visited by Entente Basque and Olagarroa. Finally, Newcastle United (England) and Gladiadores Especiales de Toluca (Mexico) will also participate. A football tournament where, regardless of the winner, everyone will be a winner.
On Wednesday afternoon, July 5, we will be able to enjoy the "Authentics Day" in the Fan Zone which will be located in the surroundings of the Reale Arena. At the end of the matches, around 19:00, the prize-giving ceremony will take place, and at the end, the musical performances will start. It will be a real party that we will be able to enjoy with friends and family thanks to the football matches, workshops and musical performances for all audiences. A nice day where the real protagonists will be people with intellectual disabilities.
