The application deadline for the Donosti Cup Munduan 2025 Grants has ended
The organization has received twelve applications from teams across Europe, Asia, America, and Africa
The deadline for submitting applications for the 1st edition of the Donosti Cup Munduan Grants closed last Friday, November 1, with a strong interest from teams wanting to participate in the tournament. Out of all the applications, only two teams will be selected to receive the grant. The organization encourages teams that are not chosen to submit their projects in future calls, as the Donosti Cup's commitment will continue in the coming years.
In the next few days, the eligibility of each application will be reviewed, and an honorary jury will be responsible for selecting the two winning teams. This jury is made up of prominent figures from the sports and social fields:
- Iñigo Olaizola: Founder and director of the Donosti Cup and the Donosti Cup Foundation, who has invited over 50 resource-limited teams to the tournament and received awards such as the Tambor de Oro, UNICEF Award, and Iberdrola SuperA Award for his social and sports work.
- Edurne Pasaban: The first woman in history to climb all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters, and director of the Edurne Pasaban Foundation, which works to provide access to education for children in Nepal. Pasaban has also led reconstruction projects in areas affected by the 2015 earthquake and supported the participation of a team of Nepali girls in the Donosti Cup in 2022.
- Ander Izagirre: A journalist and writer from Gipuzkoa, recognized for documenting stories with a social impact. With his help, Guaraní mothers who play football participated in the Donosti Cup. His book Subcampeón, about the footballer Gurrutxaga’s struggle with anxiety and depression, has been distributed by LaLiga to inspire players.
- Nahikari García: A professional footballer for Athletic Club, a doctor, and former participant in the Donosti Cup. She collaborated at an orphanage in Kenya, promoting sport as a tool for equality and engaging in educational and sports activities for vulnerable children.
- Álex Remiro: A professional footballer for Real Sociedad, recent Eurocup winner, and creator of a project aimed at mental health and emotional well-being in youth football, in collaboration with the NGO Fútbol Más.
We thank all the organizations that submitted their applications and the jury for their commitment to this initiative. We hope to announce the winners of the Donosti Cup Munduan Grants 2025 by November 30.
