A new competition model in the lower categories to promote sportsmanship and respect for the opposing team.
The Donosti Cup, after a deep analysis, has decided to modify the competition system in the group phase of the categories B12, G12, B11, B10, G10, and B9, in order to avoid very bulky results and promote respect for the rival team.
In order to avoid high scores that in a tournament of these characteristics are out of place, the Donosti Cup has decided to modify the competition system and introduce important new features, especially in the categories of boys and girls under 12 years old.
Thus, in the 1st Phase of all the categories that play 8-a-side soccer, goals will not be counted. The matches will be played in three halves instead of two, -2 of 15 minutes and 1 of 20 minutes-, and each half will be like a set. The won period will be worth 2 points, the tied period, 1, and the lost period, 0.
The aim of this modification is for players under 12 years of age to enjoy the experience of participating in the tournament without obsessing about goals, since regardless of whether they win one of the halves by 3-0 or 4-0, the points they will get will be the same.
This new rule will be based on the campaign "Respect your rival", which will seek to promote sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for opponents.
