The Donosti Cup Foundation wins the 2nd edition of the Iberdrola SuperA Awards in the social category!
Iñigo and Sara Olaizola, from the Donosti Cup Foundation, received the award from Ignacio Galán, President of Iberdrola, and former national team coach Vicente del Bosque.
The Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, presented the 6 awards that will be used to finance the winning projects in each of the categories into which the Iberdrola SuperA Awards are divided, an initiative that is in its second edition and that is part of the company's commitment to promote gender equality and, specifically, to promote excellence among women through sports.
All these awards were announced during a gala presented by Sara Escudero, which was attended by the members of the Jury of Honor, Vicente del Bosque, Jesús Carballo, Marta Arce and Teresa Perales, together with the sportswomen Carolina Marín (badminton), Ona Carbonell (swimming), Sandra Sánchez (karate) and Amanda Sampedro (soccer), among others.
The Donosti Cup Foundation was the winner in the social category for the work it has been carrying out for more than 25 years, inviting to the tournament projects from countries like India, Nepal, Ethiopia, Zambia, Bolivia or Palestine that use soccer to make life a little more bearable for thousands of girls and women who live in very difficult conditions and for whom soccer is more than a hobby, it is a way to fight for equality, claim their rights, escape from early marriage, or simply the only opportunity to get out of a refugee camp.
The check of 50,000 euros that accompanies the prize will allow the Donosti Cup Foundation to invite in the next edition a team of indigenous women from the Bolivian jungle, many of them daughters of a team of mothers who played the tournament twelve years ago.
From the Donosti Cup Foundation we want to thank all the people who have made possible through their effort and work that the tournament is awarded with this prize.
