After its emotional debut in 1994, one of the most beloved academies of the Donosti Cup returns to the tournament in what will be its 17th participation.

The relationship between Academia Cantolao and the Donosti Cup began unexpectedly in 1994 when the Peruvian academy traveled to Barcelona to participate in a tournament canceled at the last minute. The situation looked critical, with 40 young players without a place to compete or accommodation,  The Donosti Cup, after receiving an emergency call, decided to act immediately. The organization not only restructured the schedule to include the Peruvian teams but also offered them accommodation, food, and transportation, starting an ongoing effort to support underprivileged teams.

Academia Cantolao's history dates back to 1981 when in the seaside resort of Cantolao, Callao, a group of parents decided to form a team, winning the title in the Carmelitas de Lima school's annual tournament. This success prompted the creation of the Academia Deportiva Cantolao, which over time became one of the most important training centers in Peru. Throughout the years, it has been the cradle of numerous players who have gone on to professional soccer, including the likes of Claudio Pizarro, Yoshimar Yotún, and Carlos Zambrano. However, what distinguishes Academia Cantolao is not only its success in the field. Through soccer, it has offered opportunities to kids and young people from underprivileged communities, helping them not only in sports but also in their personal development.

Since that emotional first year, Academia Cantolao has returned to the Donosti Cup multiple times, establishing itself as one of the most loved and respected clubs in the tournament.
