The Donosti Cup will include a new category for teams with intellectual disability this year
After some years dedicating one day to intellectual disability teams, the Donosti Cup creates a new category for these collective with the aim of continuing it and where we hope to have 12 teams this year.
Donosti Authentics’ Cup is an integrating initiative, of social responsibility, which consists on the creation of a new category for teams made of people with intellectual disability. With this initiative, we expect to normalise the sport in the ID collective and pass on the inclusion values to all the participants in the tournament.
Considering the characteristics of these teams, the tournament will be a bit shorter than the base football one. Teams will arrive in San Sebastian on Sunday 5 July, and games will be from 6 to 8 July. In the evening of Monday 6th July, they will live, together with the rest of teams, the magical moment of the week: the Opening Ceremony that will be at the Reale Arena.
In this category, teams made of people from the ID collective will be able to participate no matter their age or gender. To have a team, 12 people will be needed and up to 25 people. The games will be 7-a-side, in 3 halves of 10 minutes each and with 4 minutes rests.
In this first edition, we want to have from 8 to 12 teams. The Real Sociedad and the Eibar have already confirmed their participation and we hope to receive the confirmation from other clubs of the Genuine League (like Ath. Bilbao, Osasuna, Alaves or Levante) soon. There are also other interested clubs from Spain, France, USA, England and Austria.
From the organisation of the tournament, we are very excited with this new project and we hope that all the registered teams will enjoy this special experience for them.
